About this site

This site is my personal wiki, implemented in Pm Wiki. Here I keep all kinds of things, from Books I want to read, Movies I want to see, and Music I want to listen to, to Food and Lifestyle and Health concerns, to Management and Consulting topics, to Computers, Software Development, and Internet things, as well as various collections of things I've accumulated over the years.

I apologize for the unfinished nature of this wiki. I have been slowly porting over entries from a previous wiki system and it is boring and time consuming. So bear with me!

A Wiki is like a normal web site, except that you can edit the content in your browser

  • "Wiki" is short for "wiki wiki", the Hawaiian for "Quick"
  • The idea originates from Macintosh Hypercard, via Ward Cunningham
  • In Ward's words, Wiki is "the simplest online database that could possibly work"
  • A Wiki is basically a shared, online, persistant whiteboard
  • Anyone can add content or change what is written or change the organisation of the content
  • Whatever you write is nicely presented, remembered, and never forgotten

Note!

This wiki is locked down to prevent spam from coming in. If you would like an account on here to edit things, please feel free to write me at my email -> mailto:tamara [snail] tamaratemple [period] com?subject=wiki%20logon%20request to request an account.

Getting around

This wiki is organized by Groups, Categories, and Tags, all of which appear in the sidebar:

  • Groups -- main sections of the wiki, including Main, Recipes, SavedLinks, SavedArticles, Science, etc. I will be breaking up the Main group into more logical groups as time permits (Technology, Consulting, etc).
  • Categories -- As you might surmise, Categories link together broad topic areas. Categories, like Groups, are fairly limited in number.
  • Tags -- tags are a form of taxonomy that has great breadth. Tags are usually topically assigned to articles to call out subject features of the article and possible groupings with other similar pages. There are lots and lots of tags.
  • Search -- in the top of the sidebar to the left is a search box. Enter anything you wish to look for in that box.

In addition, most every page has links on it that will get you around to other pages and generally navigate the wiki as you'd like.
